Kinja'd!!!3 Kinja'd!!! 28

So the other night I was enjoying a very good scotch or 3, and I ended up on this Business Liquidation Auction site I frequent (I have bought a lot of good tools a nice Air Compressor etc from this site in the past) and the y had this truck for sale.

Kinja'd!!!

Very few people had bid on it, and I possibly a little drunk put in this lowball bid that ended up winning all in with Auction Fees for $3000. I was shocked, now I have been looking for a small Truck to do some light duty Towing minor hauling essentially Honda Ridgeline type stuff.

Kinja'd!!!

So the question is what do I do with this 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 V6 Short Bed Regular Cab?

The Good:

Runs strong, Shifts good, throws no codes

Kinja'd!!!

The Bad:

It is a bit beat up, Needs a drivers Mirror and a d rivers Seat Belt

Kinja'd!!!

The tint on the drivers window is horrible

Next nice weekend we have when the world sketchiest self service car wash with hot water is open I will delouse the thin inside and out, it is full of Junk, and probably decided it is 45 degrees out and raining in Atlanta today so I’m not going to mess with it right now.
So Wh a t do you think Oppo for $3000 did I win or lose?

Pic dump of junk yness

Oh hey! You got free pair of loafers in the back! Lol

You could fix it up a little.

If you don’t like it, flip it for $5k.

Did the shoes fit? Kidding.

That looks like a nice find that will clean up well. How many miles and does the A/C work ?

I'd clean it up for a few hours and flip it. I had no idea you could get this gen with a V6

Sounds like it.  Running, driving, working A/C and a presentable exterior sounds like a np.

My Dad had one of those, but with a manual. His had 115k or so on it when he got rid of it, and it never gave him any issues. For an around the yard, go to the hardware store truck, it will be more than fine. The only reason he got rid of it was because he needed something to tow with.

I was surprised as well it is supposed to get 20mpg on the highway which is pretty good considering, I may keep it but I’ll clean it up use it to haul the stuff for my kitchen floors then decide what to do with it.

Per the Manual which was surprisingly in the glove box this thing will tow 7500 lbs it has the towing package.

Yeah - if you can get a grand or a bit more than you have in it, it’s a good idea.

Looks like it could easily be a 1000 dollar profit on a flip.

That’s said, manual hellcat swap. Or SRT10 swap, along with lowering springs, leafs, and drop knuckles .

You need an errand truck that can tow. If this thing is mechanically sound, you won. Your plan to use it for a bit is also sound. You won’t lose anything doing that.

Congrats !

YEah no swap or crazyness, I really want a 60's mustang coupe , to do that kind of thing I have this dream to get a 60s mustang and make it look like something that wold be in the high school parking lot in the 70s, Jensen Triaxels in the back deck jacked up rear end, 8 track etc.

Id go with your plan to clean it up and fix the minor issues(tint, mirror, seat belt).  Throw a hundred dollar pair of drop shackles on the back(unless you plan to tow heavy).  Find you a nice set of padded quality seat covers and maybe peruse Craigslist for a set OE RAM 20" take off wheels and tires.  You'd have a nice looking and functional work truck.

3000 for a truck from this century without mechanical problems? A win’s a win.

Really? IIRC, ours was only rated at 5k, and that was pushing it given the softness of the suspension.

Boneyard Uplift the interior (‘07 fleet will interchange with all third gens) and decide then.

The big problem you have here is that it has the 3.7. This is NOT a reliable or sturdy or even decent motor, and why it sold so cheap. 3.7's are just junk. It WILL fail on you. Not if - when. Period. So if you keep it, PLAN on it blowing up.

That said: it will accept a boneyard 5.7/545RFE or 5.7/68RFE WITHOUT requiring interior harness changes. They grow on trees, they’re cheap as hell as a result, and you only need to pull the radiator support to swing the engine on these.

Also note that the MANUAL IS FULL OF ACTUAL LIES CALLED MISPRINTS!!
The MAXIMUM for the 3.7/42RLE/SB  3.55 is 3,800lbs! ABSOLUTE. MAXIMUM.

That is WITH THE TOWING PACKAGE. The 7500lbs rating applies to the 4.7/545RFE/SB.

I think you came out good. A truck for $3000 in that kind of condition is great here in Michigan!

Well the only thing I plan on towing is 2 600 lb jet skies and trailler about 2000 lb total so I’m good

Yeah, the 3.7 will tow that just fine. If you had the LB (long bed) version, you would have the room to just toss them in the back. These things have some pretty crazy payload - 14 70lbs.

Fun thing is, if you swap for the 5.7/545/3.92 (I think you may have the 3.92's; it’s been over a decade) and stick to the 17" wheels, the 6200 GVWR springs give you a claimed 9100lbs towing but if you rebuild the 545RFE with Sonnax updates and an upgraded trans cooler, 10k is entirely feasible with 2WD .

As someone who frequently buys cheap cars and sells them, the best advice I can give you is decide now, before you start working on it or driving it, if you are going to flip it or keep it. I’m the king of falling in love with random heaps I bring home and putting way too much time and money in them to make a profit. Learn from my mistakes.

Many times simply cleaning it up well and dealing with the major cheap issues the last guy was too lazy to fix would double or triple my money. Instead I end up spending months fixing little fiddly things that I only I care about because I’ve fallen in love, then selling it at a break even or money losing price months later. Don’t do that.
